Chef de Cuisine , Bistro Vendôme

A summer job at the age of 16 at a Michigan country club doing a little bit of everything from cart boy to line cook was Matt's start in the culinary world.   After graduating high school, he went to Michigan State University to study art and then explored his art studies at Kendall College of Art and Design. While in school, he worked in kitchens and found he was driven to combine his art and culinary background to become a chef.

Right in his neighborhood was Grand Rapids Culinary School where he was able to work under 2 Master Chefs and compete in food competitions.   After completing culinary school, he moved to Colorado and began working at The Flagstaff House before chasing the ski bug to Summit County.    He worked at private restaurants in the ski country before landing a spot as Executive Chef for Vail Resorts.

To take his career to the next level, Matt moved to Denver where he learned of Chef Jennifer Jasinski and the work she was doing at Rioja just as Chef Jen was looking for a new chef for Bistro Vendôme.   Matt's cooking audition went very well and Jen offered him the position of Chef de Cuisine
